Like the rest of the world, Southland NZ is adjusting to life amid the COVID-19 pandemic, especially now that we have moved into Alert Level 4.

In a bid to ensure our country is as protected as possible, the New Zealand Government has imposed strict conditions on people entering the country and moved to alert level 4, where everyone in New Zealand must now stay home, except those providing essential services, and only have physical contact with those that they live with.

Great South: Southland's regional development agency, is helping Southland businesses to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 by providing them with the support, resources and information needed to navigate this challenging time. You can learn more about this support here, along with other helpful links to information on COVID-19, including the latest health updates, advice for visitors and locals, business support and more.

Southland and New Zealand are renowned for its manaakitanga (welcoming spirit) and we hope that in the near future we will be in a position to welcome people south to explore our region. In the meantime, we encourage people to stay home, stay safe, be kind and look after each other. Together, we can unite against COVID-19 and prevent its spread.

A national state of emergency has been declared and Emergency Management Southland (EMS) is responsible for leading the regional response to welfare, shelter and food. If people have urgent concerns about reaching essential services they can ring 0800 890127 or email to register. For more information go here.
