Koropuku Falls

2800 Chaslands Hwy, , Progress Valley

The Koropuku Falls are a hidden gem among the Southland Waterfalls. Found on the western part of the Catlins Conservation Park and along the Southern Scenic Route on the Chaslands Highway.

A small unofficial car park, which is easy to miss, is found on side of the highway next to a sign of 'Koropuku Falls'. An intermediate track starts from the parking and the moment you step onto the track you enter the lush native forest with huge ferns lining the way. After a few minutes on the track the first obstacle will appear - a stepping stone stream crossing. Winding deeper into the bush you follow along the stream up to the waterfall's base. To get up close to the waterfall you will need to scale a few rocks. There are two spots with a bench, one halfway on the track next to the stream, and the second with a perfect view of the waterfall. The track can be slippery and muddy after a rainfall, so be aware.

The track takes around 40 minutes to walk (return). An off the beaten track adventure and worthy of a visit.

Note: Dog access is allowed if the dog is on a leash. Go here for more dog friendly walks and areas in Southland.
