The festival is a feast not only of oysters but of an array of local Southland seafood, fine wine and entertainment.
Southland is home to abundant amounts of seafood – blue cod, oysters, paua and more, all available at the festival and cooked by talented chefs. The seafood comes direct to the festival from the sea, promising freshness and a taste like nothing else
In true southern style, the festival kicks off each year with the event’s star, the Bluff Oyster, being piped on to the stage. From then on, it’s non-stop entertainment – all set against a backdrop of one, unforgettable continuous seafood extravaganza.
Stallholders serve up mainly locally grown produce from oysters anyway you like them through to whitebait fritters, muttonbirds, seafood chowder, kina shots plus much more! There's a vast array of seafood on offer allowing everyone to enjoy a unique taste of Southland.
While sampling the delicacies on offer, festival goers can enjoy lives music and entertaining competitions like oyster opening, oyster eating and an oyster sack fashion parade.
