What was once our collection of family heirlooms and memorabilia has turned into an extensive collection of historic pieces on display at the Central Southland Museum.
When our collection outgrew the spare space in our home, we moved it into an old Salvation Army Hall in Winton. However, in 2015, after a fire broke out and destroyed the building and some of the historic items, we moved the collection into Winton's historic substation and adjacent garage.
The insides of the substation and garage have been organised into units that comprise a bedroom, kitchen, school and a rabbiter's hut. These areas boast many interesting feature and fascinating early artifacts. We also have an extensive collection of vintage clothing, and items not usually on display can be brought out on request.
Please Note: Our museum is open for restricted hours or by appointment. A small charge applies.
