The newly restored and re-imaged Mataura Museum opened in March 2015. It is housed in an 1880s cottage, known locally as Clematis Cottage.
Our museum showcases the stories of the Mataura Paper Mill and Freezing Works; using touch screens to bring Mataura’s rich social and industrial heritage to life. Our collection includes a strong set of local photographs dating back to the 1870s and a comprehensive local history archive.
We run the museum with a dedicated team of local volunteers and it is open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 1.00pm to 4.00pm. Admission to our museum is free, but donations are very welcome and appreciated.
