Speed Works Motorsport NZ Championship

Teretonga Raceway

86 Sandy Point Road, Otatara

January 25th and 26th means the third event in the Speed Works MotorSport NZ Championship and we head to the mighty Teretonga Park just outside of Invercargill with a super exciting programme of racing.

Topping the bill will be the second round of the new look Castrol TRS championship which has a new car, new engine and new tyres to tackle the short, but intoxicating Teretonga track.

The very fast circuit has played host to some of the all-time greats over its historic life time and with some of the best up and coming single seater drivers in the world today expected to fill the seats in the TRS championship, the battles throughout the field should be mesmerising.

The new cars are the latest specification FIA approved and 'halo' equipped cars. They boast bigger tyres and significantly more horsepower than previous TRS series cars and should be quite something around the fast sweeps of this most southerly of race tracks.

Making only their second appearance in New Zealand too will be the TCR class of cars as they fight out the second round of a New Zealand championship and a Trans-Tasman challenge. Expect the best drivers from New Zealand and Australia to be duking it out door-to-door in a variety of world class machinery from manufacturers like Audi, Honda, Hyundai, Alfa Romeo and VW. Racing in other series around the globe has been some of the best in motorsport and we fully expect the New Zealand races to be just as thrilling. It should be unforgettable.

If that's not enough for fans, we've also got the BNT V8s back at the circuit for another intense battle between old rivals Ford and Holden, as well as Toyota and Nissan who have been race and championship winners in the category in recent seasons. Two classes make up the BNT V8 field and expect to find talented racers from both New Zealand and Australia in the mix for honours.

The Toyota 86 Championship returns once again to Teretonga and will look to repeat the thrills and action it has provided at the venue in the last few seasons. The last two years have produced racing that has been world class and the identical 86 machines will once again slug it out over three races in a busy weekend of action. This time around, Toyota are offering two 86 cars as prizes so the up and coming racers who make this class what it is will be more focussed than ever in taking away a huge points haul from what is the third round of their six round championship.

For the fans who enjoy a bit of history, we've got tin tops and single seaters. The South Island Porsches and the South Island-based Historic Touring cars join us for their second weekend in a row while one of the most iconic single seater classes of all time - Formula Ford - is also on the card as a rejuvenated National Formula Ford championship joins the Speed Works MotorSport NZ Championship for its third round.

And if the racing action isn't enough, for the first time ever we are also bringing the thrills of the D1 NZ drifting championship to our fans as the hugely popular series, which features a variety of drifting classes and a mouth-watering selection of machinery, joins us for a Saturday evening shoot out. We're looking forward to that and we know all of our fans in Invercargill will absolutely love it!
