To celebrate Southland Heritage Month the Templeton Flax Milling Heritage Trust will be holding an open day. The restored flax mill was opened in 2004. It is the only working flax mill in New Zealand and was awarded New Zealand’s highest honour, Category 1, by the Historic Places Trust in July 2010. This is an opportunity for the public to visit a working flax mill. There will also be a display of flax weaving, the ability to have a farm and nature walk, plus a coffee truck available to provide food and hot drinks.
