The Riverton Heritage Harvest Festival is an annual celebration of Southland's home harvest.
Interactive displays, demonstrations, workshops, speakers, music, competitions & activities for all! Lasting three days, the Harvest Festival will have enough happening to keep your family busy. Free speakers, music, and activities will be happening outside in our big Marquee with the harvest market and Country Mouse Market surrounding it. There will be things to taste and buy: produce, chutney, baking, plants and seeds. The cider press will be operating all weekend, bring along your apples to press or taste the fresh juice. There will be displays of the produce of the south, many types of apples, potatoes and tomatoes. Bring along vegetables from your own garden or preserves from the pantry to add to the displays at any time over the weekend, there are prizes to be won!
With 15 different low-cost workshops offered over the weekend it is a great chance to learn a range of self- sufficiency skills. 2020 workshops include topics such as: seed saving, mushroom growing, plant propagation, biodynamics, and herbalism, and more topics surrounding the traditional growing, harvesting, preserving and sharing of food. There will also be full day workshops on offer before the festival, and Forest Garden tours scheduled throughout the weekend.
