Templeton Flax Mill Open Day

1:00 to 4:00pm

Demonstrations will be run every 40 minutes while open. Our Flax mill is the only working flax mill in New Zealand left on an original site. At the peak of the industry in the 1890s it was New Zealand’s largest export with 600 mills across the country. At our open day we will run a DVD presentation by Des Templeton, the last manager of the working mill, and then run all the equipment so visitors see the fibre go from a green blade to clean fibre ready to be made into ropes and twine.
