Follow in the footsteps of the first tourists to walk to Deep Cove over a hundred years ago, before the Wilmot Pass Road was built.
This steep, 1.9km tramping track in Deep Cove, Doubtful Sound leads up to an impressive hanging valley and fantastic views of the Huntleigh Falls and Deep Cove.
From the Deep Cove Hostel, head to the hostel manager’s house across the road. Behind this house is the start of the track, heading up the hill. During the journey there is a marked side track to see the hostel’s hydro dam, before the track climbs up the "Kea Cairn" and beyond to the end of the hanging valley and the base of the Huntleigh Falls. A 2-3 hour return trip, the track is steep and challenging, but the views are spectacular.
