584 Queens Drive, Invercargill

Thomsons Bush is one of the few remnants of the kahikatea dominated swamp forest characteristic of central/southern Southland. This vast forest was known as Taurakitewaru by the local Maori (prior to European settlement) who had strong spiritual ties to the native forest which helped sustain their physical and cultural needs.

In the heart of the city, Thomsons Bush offers a network of easy-going walk-/cycleways, through a beautiful example of Southland native bush. Be sure to check the signboards as some tracks are walking-only.

This trail is considered a Grade 2 - Easy trail based on the Kennett Brothers grading system which is widely used by New Zealand riders. For more information on the grading go here.
