Waihopai Walkway/Cycleway

Access off of Stead Street Wharf, North Road, Queens Drive, Racecourse Road & Bainfield Road, Invercargill

A riverside experience! Walk or cycle the banks of the Waihopai River from the Stead Street Bridge to the Waihopai Dam. Join the walkway at a number of road intersections or follow the river for the entire 15km loop (4.5 hours return).

The main access points are off Stead Street Wharf, North Road, Queens Drive, Racecourse Road and Bainfield Road. Dogs must be kept on a leash while on or within 5 metres of the walking track. Dogs may be exercised off leash beyond this, excluding areas where sheep are being grazed.

The section from the Boardwalk south towards Bluff is currently under development.

 

This trail is considered a Grade 2 - Easy trail based on the Kennett Brothers grading system which is widely used by New Zealand riders. For more information on the grading go here.
