DO

Seeing Fiordland from above is breathtaking and taking a scenic flight with Air Milford allows you to get deeper into the untouched beauty of the National Park. Or jump on a trip with Southern Lakes Helicopters and land in some of the most remote places this country has to offer.

Home to three of NZ’s Great Walks, the Milford Track, Kepler Track and Routeburn Track packing your walking boots is essential. If you are running low on time or the huts are booked out, day walks like Lake Marian, Key Summit, Mt Luxmore or Rainbow’s Reach are great alternatives. Stay safe, always check track conditions, and let someone know your plans.

Get on the water! To really appreciate the sheer size and scale of the mountains take a cruise on the lakes, rivers, or fiords, stay overnight, or charter a boat with friends. Go for a kayak in one of the fiords, dip the nose of the kayak under a waterfall, explore small coves and nooks, or jump in a jet boat and soar along the Waiau river towards Lake Manapouri and try to catch a fish.
