We are a small business offering guided tours and walking on Stewart Island. Our Island Discovery Road Tour covers virtually every road on the Island (all 28 km of them). During the trip we guide you through historic Island life, from earliest Maori to the sealers, whalers saw-millers and fishermen right up to the present and what it’s like to live here now and to bring up a family. The roadsides have significant orchid populations and we’ll stop and enjoy these as well. This tour takes about 2 hours.
Our other primary tour is to Ulva Island, an open sanctuary just off the coast of Rakiura. Our guided walks and commentary explains how the Island has become the peaceful beauty it now is. We provide a glimpse into New Zealand’s ancient past. Several species of threatened birds have been reintroduced to this open sanctuary and spotting them is a great tour activity. This tour takes about 4 hours.
