Are you into mountain biking and want to get your heart rate up? There are plenty of longer trails to test your bikes and lungs on! These are headlined by the awe-inspiring Around the Mountains cycle trail, a 180km, 3-5 day trail that begins in the small township of Kingston. There’s also the newly minted and highly scenic Lake 2 Lake trail that runs alongside Lake Te Anau and the East side of the Waiau River to Lake Manapouri.

For those that love pushing the boundaries, Southland does not disappoint. There’s the world famous, hand carved, stunning private mountain biking and walking track on a high country station at Welcome Rock or the intense gravity-fed downhill trails at Bluff Hill that provide outstanding views of Foveaux Strait.
