Op shopping is becoming increasingly popular in Southland with many small towns featuring op shops on the main street. It is a great way to save money, save time and save the environment.  

No matter your reason for op shopping, Southland has some great hidden op shop gems that are just waiting for you.

Orphans Aid Op Shop Invercargill

A mix of both old and new, this Orphan Aid shop sells a bit of everything and they always have a great window display. The shop also stocks some great Trade Aid items like their Organic Fair-Trade Coffee and Chocolate or their cosy Felt Slippers.

The Garage Reuse Shop

If you are looking for whiteware items such as washing machines or dryers or even furniture, this shop is always well stocked in the homeware department. The Garage has some amazing people onsite repairing second-hand appliances ready for a new life. The op shop proudly supports Habitat for Humanity in Invercargill which helps to build homes right here in Southland.

Gore Salvation Shop

This popular op shop has a high turnover of items with Saturday morning being notoriously busy. A bit of everything can be found here. Clothes, furniture, puzzles, bric-a-brac, you name it they probably have it. Also, if you come at the right season, they often have crates of seconds fruit from Central Otago that is great for preserving, baking or eating on the drive home.

Winton Hospice Shop

Tucked away on the back streets is the Winton Hospice Shop. Providing a range of clothing options from your basics right up to designer labels. They have a great kid’s toy room too!

St John Lumsden Store

The store is split into two sections. The front is mainly knickknacks, clothes and kids items and then out the back, there is a pretty big range of things. Books, furniture, lots of good vintage treasures. There is always some great finds.

Windsor Salvation Army

If you are after a bit of fancy then the Windsor op shop is for you. Known for attracting people from all parts of Southland this small Salvation Army Op Shop is very choosy on what they put out on their shop floor so you know what there is is the best of the best. Designer labels, merino underlayers, school uniforms, the Windsor store is the creme de la creme of clothing op shops in Southland and they know it. Prices are higher but that is because you are paying for quality and all money goes to a good cause!

Te Anau Hospice Shop

Having just moved into the old H&J Smiths store due to increased demand, the Te Anau Hospice Shop is always a place to find a deal. The new shop is about two thirds bigger than the previous one so expect to find more furniture, more clothes, more of everything! Only a two-minute walk from the lake front, there are many treasures to be found in this Hospice Shop.

Gore Hospice Shop

The main focus of the Gore Hospice is clothing which has been meticulously sorted into sizes, styles and colours. This store makes clothes op shopping a breeze if you know exactly what you are after. It is a great place to check out as they often have ½ price sales on.
