Freedom Camping

Colac Bay Freedom Camping

9881/335 Colac Foreshore Road, Colac Bay / Ōraka

It’s perhaps one of the best freedom camping sites for self-contained campervans offered by the Southland District Council. Colac Bay has a beautiful beach, with occasional surf too. There’s a friendly atmosphere here, and it’s a relaxed pace. Plus, you can also go snorkelling for Paua at low tide!

Colac Bay is located along the Southern Scenic Route and easy to find. When you spot the giant surfer statue head toward the beach and continue on the gravel road until you get to the boat wharf.

It's truly a lovely location to stay the night. While it might be more suitable for outdoor activities in the summer, it’s still beautiful in the winter. So, put this on your list of places to visit!
