2193 Riverton-Otautau Road, Otautau

This place is a magic find, there are great grassy areas underneath a huge range of mature trees. Picnic tables are scattered around the area and a neat set of toilets across the little creek.

The intrepid Southland explorer can camp for up to four nights at the Alex McKenzie Arboretum and picnic area just outside Otautau. The Southland District Council have sorted this freedom camping out for the travelling community - repay the favour by obeying all signage, respecting the area and other users of it, and leaving your site tidy when you go.

Note: Dog access is allowed if the dog is on a leash. Go here for more dog friendly walks and areas in Southland.
