347 Borland Road, Monowai

The North Borland tramping track offers an excellent trip across the Borland Burn terrace and up the Borland Valley, with its interesting limestone formations, to the North Borland Hut, where there is access for experienced trampers to Mt Titiroa or the Garnock Burn and Manapouri.

Starting at Borland Lodge, this 6-8 hour advanced track follows the Borland Nature Walk across the Borland Burn suspension bridge and follows the sign pointing to the track. Follow the Borland Burn terrace to a large limestone Rock Bivy, which provides shelter and has a pit toilet. After the Bivy, cross the Middle Branch of the Borland Burn River. Extreme caution should be taken as the water levels can rise rapidly with heavy rain.

The track then climbs steeply above a gorge to a clearing where Mt. Titiroa may be seen to the north east. Here the track re-enters the bush and continues to a tussock and scrub clearing. The North Borland Hut is located approximately 30 minutes into the clearing.
