Derek Turnbull Track

647 Forest Hill Crossing Road, Lochiel

Forest Hill Scenic Reserve protects a valuable example of a remnant of New Zealand native forest surrounded by developed agricultural land. A unique reserve, the forest represents the type of native bush once found on limestone outcrops throughout the Southland Plains.

The Derek Turnbull Track is a two hour (one way) trail. This gravel surfaced track links the picnic areas at either end of the reserve. The gradient from the Tussock Creek end is easier.

Note: No dogs are allowed in the reserve.
