Home to three of NZ’s Great Walks, the Milford Track, Kepler Track and Routeburn Track packing your walking boots is essential. If you are running low on time or the huts are booked out, day walks like Lake Marian, Key Summit, Mt Luxmore or Rainbow’s Reach are great alternatives. Get on the water! To really appreciate the sheer size and scale of the mountains take a cruise on the lakes, rivers, or fjords, stay overnight, or charter a boat with friends. Go for a kayak in one of the fiords, dip the nose of the kayak under a waterfall, explore small coves and nooks, or jump in a jet boat and soar along the Waiau river towards Lake Manapouri and try to catch a fish.

Milford Sound is often referred to as the Eighth wonder of the world and once you’ve visited, you’ll know why. Don’t let the weather put you off, seeing Milford in a storm is epic!
