NZ Road Transport Hall of Fame Awards

It’s the gala dinner of the year bringing road transport legends together from all corners of the country.

Throw in a charity auction and a visit to the spiritual home of the wheel - and it’s clear there’s a lot to love about the NZ Road Transport Hall of Fame.

Transport is often referred to as the ‘lifeline of a nation’ and that is very true in New Zealand where trucking companies supply us with much of the food, produce and products that we rely on every day.

That dedication and passion are celebrated at Mobil 1 Delvac NZ Road Transport Hall of Fame gala dinner held each year in the spectacular Bill’s Shed at Bill Richardson Transport World in Invercargill – a world-class venue and the largest private automotive museum of its kind in the world.

The Hall of Fame showcases and honours the outstanding contributions many individuals have made to the New Zealand road transport industry, while also supporting the continued safety of young Kiwis using our roads. Inductees’ stories are shared at Transport World as a lasting legacy to their contributions.

It began in 2012 as the brainchild of Invercargill-based HWR directors Jocelyn and Scott O’Donnell. The gala dinner is your chance to celebrate those in the transport industry who have contributed a significant amount of time, care and enthusiasm to forging the way for the future of road transport in New Zealand.

It’s the industry event not to be missed, with more than 500 tickets selling out well in advance every year.

You’ll love mingling alongside inductees who are officially welcomed into the Hall of Fame at each event, which is all for a good cause, doubling as a worthy fundraiser for the ProActive Youth Driver Education Trust.

The Trust makes driving safer for young New Zealanders. It is free for teenagers who already hold a driver’s licence, and gives them the opportunity to take part in courses that equip them in the event something unexpected happens while they are on the road.

During the evening you’ll lap up the charity auction, with all proceeds going to the Trust - previous items auctioned have included hot laps with Kiwi racing aces, sports and music memorabilia, original artworks, and spectacular weekend getaways.

While you’re here, we know you’ll want to check out Southland’s obsession with classic motoring.

It all started with local legend, Burt Munro, setting a land speed record in 1967 on his trusty old Indian Scout Motorbike - a record that still stands today.

Now called New Zealand’s “Classic Motoring Capital”, Invercargill boasts an unparalleled vintage truck collection at Bill Richardson Transport World, a world-class display of more than 300 motorcycles and motorcycle-related artwork at Classic Motorcycle Mecca, and a celebration of the legend of speed himself, Burt Munro, at E Hayes Motorworks.
