It’s as far from the average track as you can get - where else do you get to run and ride through a swede paddock? It’s a once-a-year opportunity to explore the fascinating Hokonui Hills through farmland opened up especially for the event.

Grab the running shoes or mountain bike and take to the saddle for the day. Got an e-bike? Bring it along - join in the fun.

This is the perfect event no matter what age, ability or stage of life - from the family looking for a fun, active day out, through to the ultra-competitive mountain biker or runner - determined to set a new PB.

The 50km mountain bike course comes with a tough reputation, you’ll definitely earn those spectacular views from the tops, contrasted with sections through tranquil native bush.

Low gears wind and calves stiffen as bikers and runners tackle steep climbs, farm tracks, gravel roads, river crossings and everything in between - exploring the serene terrain.

As you reach the tops of tussock-clad hills, drink in the sumptuous 360-degree views of Southland’s spectacular scenery.

With courses ranging from 2km to 50km, everyone is catered for - there’s even a fantastic range of spot prizes up for grabs.

Every participant is cheered on as they cross the finish, and then it’s time to kick back, relax and share some war stories from your adventure.

Why not make it a weekend?

There’s heaps of room for camping at Dolamore Park, and waking up to the native bird calls from the native-bush clad hills has to be experienced to be believed. Not to mention the amazing playground (yes, there’s a fantastic flying fox) that will keep the kids entertained for hours.

Gore revells in its colourful, illicit whiskey-making past, fly-fishing granduer, and farming heritage at various historic attractions, such as the Hokonui Moonshine Museum, Gore Historical Museum, and the Hokonui Pioneer Village and Museum.

So when the rides and runs are done, take time to soak up one of the south’s most fascinating destinations. It’s the perfect combination for a weekend to remember.
