Sustainability Criteria
To be classified as ‘sustainable’ on SouthlandNZ.com, your business must meet at least 4 out of the 5 criteria below:

You must have a visible section on your website (or social media if no website) that outlines your sustainability, conservation, or environmental efforts. This section should also reference the other criteria below.

Your business should actively contribute to community wellbeing—whether through volunteering, sponsorship, in-kind support, or financial contributions. This should be visible on your website or social media.

Incorporate values such as manaakitanga and kaitiakitanga, share local stories where appropriate, and use Te Reo Māori in your communications and experiences. This should be evident across your platforms and interactions.

Demonstrate support for environmental outcomes through volunteering, donations, or other contributions. Note: Paid work (e.g. Jobs for Nature contracts) does not count toward this criterion.

If your business measures its carbon footprint or greenhouse gas emissions, state this clearly. You may also include efforts to reduce or offset emissions, and any goals (e.g. becoming carbon neutral). Sharing your emissions report is optional.
