Seeing Fiordland from above is breathtaking, and taking a scenic flights with Air Milford allows you to get deeper into the untouched beauty of the National Park. Or jump on a trip with Southern Lakes Helicopters and land in some of the most remote places this country has to offer.

Home to three of NZ’s Great Walks, the Milford Track, Kepler Track and Routeburn Track packing your walking boots is essential. If you are running low on time or the huts are booked out, day walks like Lake Marian, Key Summit, Mt Luxmore or Rainbow’s Reach are great alternatives. Stay safe, always check track conditions, and let someone know your plans.
Get on the water! To really appreciate the sheer size and scale of the mountains take a cruise on the lakes, rivers, or fjords, stay overnight, or charter a boat with friends. Go for a kayak in one of the fjords, dip the nose of the kayak under a waterfall, explore small coves and nooks, or jump in a jet boat and soar along the Waiau river towards Lake Manapouri and try to catch a fish.

Milford Sound is often referred to as the Eighth wonder of the world and once you’ve visited you’ll know why. Most New Zealander’s have never been, and now is the time, with fewer people, less noise and distractions, time to soak it all in. Don’t let the weather put you off, seeing Milford in a storm is epic!  Options in Milford include day cruises through Cruise Milford and Real Journeys, diving, overnight cruises, sea kayaking and scenic flights. 

Doubtful Sound is a true fjord system with many coves, arms, islands, seals, local fishing boats returning with loads of crayfish and maybe the odd penguin or dolphin if you keep your eyes out for them.  The Sound of Silence will capture your heart and leaving wishing you only had more time to explore. There are several charter cruises option for day and overnight cruises including Real Journeys.
If it’s wildlife you’re after you’ll be spoilt for choice in Fiordland, its home to cheeky Kea, Bottlenose Dolphins, New Zealand Fur Seals, Fiordland Crested Penguins and endangered birds like the Takahē, once thought to be extinct. The critically endangered Kākāpō is also resident of Fiordland and is closely monitored on a predator free island in Dusky Sound.
